Guided trip
🥾 This trip is organized by Harri, I'm a nature lover and will be your Mountain Guide & Sports coach during this trip. I'm based in Granada city center, in Southern Spain, Andalusia, but originate from central Finland. A place magically located between incredible beaches and Sierra Nevada National Park. 🥾 Are you ready to experience the wildest weekend with me? Let's come together and share a different weekend through our beautiful National Park in southern Spain: the Sierra Nevada, Alpujarras area. Let's sleep at local guesthouses and learn how to prepare self-sufficient treks through the mountains, also tasting local gastronomy. 👬 I invite you to join this adventure and discover this hidden gem of Spain! You will enjoy crazy activities in nature with people of your age who share your same interests and passions. La Alpujarra is a magical region found on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada range. Its white villages are literally perched on the mountains. 🔭 The landscape is a wonderful blend of natural vegetation and fruit trees growing on handmade terraces built centuries ago. Walking along old footpaths and up and down staircases carved into the rock, we will arrive at different viewpoints from which we will have a bird’s eye view of the fantastic scenery. 🌞 In summer, the snow melt flows through fountains, streams, and waterfalls, creating an inviting landscape bursting with flowers for us to roam through. 🌣 We do this trekking during the daytime, respecting the rhythm of the group. The total walking distance will be about 45km, split by 4-night stops. The physical level necessary is medium. 🛏️ We will stay overnight at local private accommodations, sharing a bigger apartment together or sharing rooms. Trip Itinerary
1

Granada

Day 1-2
Guided tapas tour in Granada (it doesn’t include the price of drinks and tapas). Hikers will meet each other and go for a guided tapas tour (guide included, tapas not included). A good chance to talk about the routes that we will do over the next few days. Time to relax before beginning our adventure full of energy tomorrow. Accommodation at a private apartment.
2

Trevélez

Day 2
From Trevélez to La Tahá de Pitres. After breakfast, we will go to Trevélez, the highest village in Spain. The organization of the village, into three neighborhoods, reflects its Spanish-Muslim structure We will visit the most important ham-curing factory in Alpujarra. After tasting some ham we will be ready to start our hike, firstly heading (3,5 hours / 15km walking distance) to Busquistar and finally arriving at Mecina Fondales, where our private accommodation is located. We will have a picnic during the hike and you will be free to choose where to have dinner.
3

Busquístar

Day 2
Busquístar is located in a privileged natural environment, next to the ravine formed by the Trévelez River and inside the Sierra Nevada national park. It was previously known as el paraíso escondido de los mozárabes (the hidden paradise of the Mozarabic). The exact origins of this village are not known, but evidence shows that is could be as early as the 13th century. As a result, there are many remains and influences of the Arab dynasty in this area for example: an old mosque and an oil mill, although only the ruins are left. La Iglesia Parroquial de San Felipe y San Santiago however, survives, although it has been through several restorations.
4

Mecina-Fondales

Day 2-3
Mecina has a variety of bars and restaurants (including vegetarian). Mecina, like the small Mecinilla, and Fondales, have a large degree of architectural authenticity. You can highlight its urban layout perfectly adapted to the slopes of the land. It has very interesting natural and heritage resources, such as a traditional laundry, a ferruginous water fountain, and a church built on the old mosque. In the streets with its rounded corners you can see houses without roofstinaos, galleries, passages and alleys, forming a network of streets typical of this era. This evening let's discover local mountain gastronomy after we made the check-in to our local private accommodation.
5

Capileira

Day 3-4
Walking along medieval staircases. After breakfast we will set off on our hike, walking along paths built into the side of the mountains, some of which were carved out of the rock hundreds of years ago. These paths allow us to go through the deep gorge of the Trevélez River. The hike will take us through small villages, such as Ferreirola, Atalbéitar, and Busquistar, which are the best examples of the traditional architecture of the Alpujarra. Accommodation at the local private, like always.
6

Poqueira Valley

Day 4-5
Acequias del Poqueira. After breakfast, we will begin our hike, which will first take us to the old settlement of La Cebadilla. We will climb up, crossing several rivers that flow down the slopes of Mulhacén until we arrive at the Cortijo de Las Tomas, whose name indicates that we are at the starting point of the irrigation channels which carry the snowmelt down to the villages. After having our picnic we will start the return leg with stunning views of the high snowy peaks of the Sierra Nevada. We will walk along the irrigation channels returning to Capileira, where we will sleep for a second night with time to have dinner in the village.
7

Pampaneira

Day 5
After breakfast and depending on the departure time of the flights. We will set off on a short hike visiting the lowest village of the valley, Pampaneira, spending some time in its shops, artisan workshops, and the visitor interpretation center on the Sierra Nevada and the Alpujarra. Pampaneira is the ideal place to buy some souvenirs or to lose yourself in its streets listening to the sound of running water.
8

Granada

Day 5
We will leave the Alpujarra and head to Granada. If someone likes to stay for more days, please don't hesitate to ask for more information. I have good connections to the nearest areas and also accommodations in several villages or at the Granada capital or coast.
