Amazing experience and trip to an unusual destination, Greenland, with Maria, is going to be an incredible memory that will stay for life. Trip was full of various activities that were well organized to resist any possible flight or other cancellations that can often happen in Greenland. Day 1 - Friday: Arrival in Bristol Welcome to Bristol! Locals call Bristol the most creative and liberal city in the island nation, and it has lived up to its name. As a cosmopolitan metropolis, it attracts millions of visitors and students from all over the world every year and welcomes everyone. It is also home to the most Michelin-starred restaurants outside of London and the hippest trendy neighborhoods. Depending on your arrival time in Bristol, you can go directly from the airport to our hotel (check-in is 3pm) and check into your room or leave your luggage at the reception. The 4-star hotel is well located and within walking distance of the old town. Depending on when the other TripMates arrive, I may be able to show you around Bristol already. In the afternoon we will go together to the accommodation and the afternoon is meant for our free disposal. Day 2-3
Day 2 - Saturday: Full day excursion to Stonehenge and Salisbury Fortify yourself with coffee and a good breakfast for the day's excursion to the prehistoric monument of Stonehenge and the historic city of Salisbury. It's going to be an exciting - and long - day! We'll travel by train from Bristol to Salisbury early in the morning, and from there take a special tour bus to Stonehenge. During the approximately one-hour bus ride, an audio tour will be offered, thanks to which you will learn about the area around Stonehenge and Salisbury. The visitor center of Stonehenge also offers audio guides in many different languages and we will be able to explore it on our own for a few hours and take cool photos! I will have a camera on hand for us there as well, of course. The advantage of a small group is that we are very flexible and can decide how long we stay where. On the way back we make a short stop in Old Sarum, one of the oldest settlements in England. Sounds like something out of the movie The Lord of the Rings, doesn't it? And the history of the Celts, Romans and Anglo-Saxons of Old Sarum is at least as exciting as that of Stonehenge. In the afternoon we visit our last stop: Salisbury Cathedral. Here you can see the Magna Carta from 1215, which is exhibited in the chapter house of the cathedral. The evening is free for us. Either we spend more time in Salisbury or go back to Bristol for dinner, where we have a typical (hearty) British meal or just make ourselves comfortable in a pub somewhere. Day 3 - Sunday: Banksy Street Art and the coolest city in England "People say graffiti is ugly, irresponsible and childish.... but that's only if it's done properly." - Banksy If you like, you can really sleep in today, because after breakfast we'll head out to Bristol's Old Town and explore the city on our own. We will be able to experience the highlights of the street art of many generations of street artists, marvel at the original works of probably the most famous artist of our time - Banksy. After the city tour we will have plenty of time for lunch in a restaurant or English pub. I have some suggestions ready for a traditional English "carvery" (meat platter) with really meaty or also vegan options or for a light lunch (who is rather into something like that). Everyone gets their money's worth! In the afternoon we go by bus (bus ticket exclusive, currently about £2) to the famous and historic Suspension Bridge. In the evening it is especially beautiful there, when the famous bridge with a long history is illuminated above the Avon River and we can end the evening on the terrace of a cozy restaurant ! Definitely a great end to a great weekend :). Day 4 - Monday: Departure from Bristol The last day of your weekend trip is approaching. If you have an early flight, you can say good-bye to the group the night before. Check-out is at 11 a.m. on Monday. Those staying longer can leave their backpack or suitcase at the front desk for safekeeping and use the remaining time to explore the city. I will still be in Bristol until about 10am on Monday and will be happy to give more tips. There are still so many cool things and places to discover in Bristol!
