Nothing beats Italian cheeses, breads, and pasta. And that's exactly what this trip is all about! Join me to take a food-based tour through Rome, the local way. So many of Rome's most incredible restaurants get overlooked by tourists, and this trip is meant to highlight those amazing spots. Not only will this trip be full of delicious meals, we will also explore the importance of food in Italian society and culture.

About me: Hey, y'all!! My name is Marguerite and I'm super excited to be leading this trip. Before beginning college, I spent about six months living in Rome, an experience that shaped so much of who I am and how I travel. Whenever friends or family would come to visit, I would give them a walking tour of the city I loved so dearly that included all of my favorite local spots to eat. My friends and I ate at a different place almost every day we lived there, and left having discovered what we considered some of the most overlooked spots in the city. I really want to continue supporting the people whose livelihoods rely on the success of these businesses and also let other travelers experience the incredible food they have to offer!! This trip will begin and end in Rome. September 17-19 in Rome September 20-22 in Naples September 23 in Bologna September 24 in Rome

Details about the accommodation: The accommodation will be Airbnbs! Each place will have individual beds for each person. In order to keep this trip affordable, most of the Airbnbs are equivalent to 3-star hotels in the US. Bathrooms are shared, and bedrooms may be as well (but with your own bed). More details on Airbnbs will be available upon request!! The final night in Rome will be in a hostel, in order to avoid one-night Airbnb fees and keep this trip affordable! Rome

Day 1-4

Rome is our first stop and initial introduction to Italian food and culture!! We will get to explore local restaurants in all different parts of the city. Expect lots of walking (emphasis on LOTS OF WALKING), incredible carbonara, gelato, and suppli! And, of course, tours of the Colosseum and other historical landmarks that are so iconic.

Naples

Day 4-7

Naples is the pizza capital of the world, so naturally, we will be eating a lot of pizza here. During our time in Naples, we will also take a trip about 50 minutes north, to the city of Caiazzo. Caiazzo is known as Pepe in Grani, a world-renowned pizza place that thousands of tourists flock to every year. While it may be more of a tourist place than some of our spots in Rome or Naples, it is on the "Can't-Miss" list for too many people to justify skipping.

Bologna

Day 7

A short day trip from Rome and Naples, Bologna is another food capital! Known for their Italian meats, we will be going and taking a nice walking tour of the city in between a short lunch and dinner, before heading back to Rome.

Rome

Day 7-8

Our final day of the trip will be in Rome. We will say ciao to the city we began in, with a day full of walking and eating and walking and eating and walking and eating. Everyone will have the freedom to visit favorites from the first four days, or try someplace new!
